The new Nokia C6 rides on the 5800 XpressMusic popularity with a nearly identical feature set but getting a QWERTY slider keyboard. Essentially a rebadge 5800 but transversely halved to accommodate a full-QWERTY slider halve, the new C6 has a technical data sheet that reads like the 5800 with minor improvements. I have found that the best Nokia C6 contracts are available from best mobile contracts.
Like the 5800, the Nokia C6 is a topnotch handset offering a complete suite of radio and data connectivity technologies. It’s a quad band radio on both 3G UMTS and 2G GSM with class 32 GPRS/EDGE data speeds of up to 296 Kbps on 2G and HSDPA at 3.6 Mbps and HSUPA at 2 Mbps on 3G.
Local high speed data connectivity starts with WiFi 802.11b/g for hotspot surfing. Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0 finishes it off for wireless and wired data synching, respectively. You get an integrated GPS radio with A-GPS preloaded with Ovi Maps.
The new Nokia C6 sports the same 3.2-inch TFT LCD resistive touchscreen with 630 x 360 resolution and 16 million colors. It has the same accelerometer and proximity sensors.
Under the hood, it gets powered by the same 434 MHz ARM11 engine that drove the 5800 and runs the Symbian OS v9.4 with the S60 rel 5 UI when the 5800 was released in November 2008.
Targeted at markets that have a decided preference for QWERTY keyboards, the Nokia C6 is basically a 5800 pitched in this direction. But more than that, it has a few other features that update the 5800.
Imaging goes into N97 territory with a 5 megapixel autofocus shooter with LED flash, geo tagging, face/smile detection, and VGA video recording at a smooth 30fps. Onboard storage gets a higher 240 MB while enjoying the same microSD memory expandability up to 16 GB.
